Little Town Library

Ambassador Best Practices

With your help, Eat. Learn. Play. and coordinating agencies will distribute more than 50,000 free books throughout the community. For the _____ years after installing your library, Eat. Learn. Play. will provide you with books to replenish your library with new books for your community.

Take a look at some of the best practices for stocking and maintaining your community’s Little Town Library.

Best Practices

  • Ambassadors need to be able to store at least 10 boxes of books to replenish your library when books get taken. If needed, we will provide you with storage shelves and a dolly to transport the books.

  • Ambassadors will need to pick up books from distribution locations or around Oakland in order to keep your library stocked. Contact your coordinating agency to arrange for book pickup.

  • Community members are encouraged to take as many books as they’d like. There is no requirement for them to bring the books back or leave a book for every one they take. Yes, we accept donations of used books and magazines, however, you don’t need to keep torn, moldy or outdated materials.

  • Take a look inside your library box every few days. If there are books that are falling apart, have old/outdated information, or are offensive or racist, please remove and recycle them.

  • We will provide you with a repair toolkit. We encourage you to utilize your toolkit to complete small repairs. For larger repairs, please fill out the Repair Needs Form and we will connect you with a repair person.
