Eat. Learn. Play., Under Armour and Curry Brand Unite to Revitalize Youth Sports in Oakland
Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play., along with Under Armour and Curry Brand, are building on their longtime partnership with a renewed focus on ensuring every student in the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has access to high-quality sports and play opportunities at every stage of their education. This collaborative effort creates a seamless pathway for participation, growth and success—from elementary school play spaces to middle and high school athletics. Through sustained investment and strategic partnerships, this effort expands access to sports and reinforces the vital role athletics plays in youth development and academic achievement.
Crist, Bagnell & Chamberlain Win Oakland Marathon
The Oakland Marathon presented by Kaiser Permanente celebrated record participation in its 16th edition which began on Monday with a week’s long Oakland Run Week highlighting the diversity of running culture in the East Bay. Witnessing another 20% year-over-year growth in registration, the Oakland Marathon culminated on Sunday with high fives, smiles and embraces as participants in the Marathon (26.2 Miles), Half Marathon (13.1 Miles), 10K (6.2 Miles) and 5K (3.1 Miles) crossed the Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts Finish Line and then partied at the PLEZi Post Race Festival.
The 10,000-strong registrations included 1,000 in the Eat. Learn. Play. Kids Fun Run presented by Kaiser Permanente on Saturday morning, tackling ¼ mile, ½ mile and 1 mile distances. During Sunday’s race, runners passed by Franklin Elementary School and Piedmont Avenue Elementary School, both of which have undergone schoolyard refurbishments through Eat. Learn. Play.’s efforts. Proceeds from the event have raised over $100,000 in 2025 alone to support and provide resources for Oakland students in partnership with Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.
2025 Oakland Marathon Set to Electrify the Bay Area
The 2025 Oakland Marathon presented by Kaiser Permanente, is just one month away from its 16th edition. The event, operated by Bay Area organizers, Run Local®, takes place March 21–23 at the Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts and is expected to sell out at a new participation record, surpassing 10,000 registered runners. This year’s theme, “Choose Your Challenge,” invites runners from around the world to take on a race that suits them, with options including the Marathon (26.2 miles), Half Marathon (13.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles), 5K (3.1 miles), and the Eat. Learn. Play. Kids Fun Run, presented by Kaiser Permanente.
Eat. Learn. Play. Leads Transformative 2025 NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service at East Oakland Pride Elementary
Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. partnered with the NBA, NBA Players Association (NBPA), the Golden State Warriors and donors including Kaiser Permanente, to host a 2025 NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service at East Oakland Pride Elementary. This marks the 17th and largest schoolyard transformation for Eat. Learn. Play. to-date, and the first of seven the foundation has planned for 2025, as well as one of the projects the NBA is conducting as part of its 17th NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service

Eat. Learn. Play. is proud to announce the release of its first short documentary, From Struggle to Strength: Advancing Literacy in Oakland. This powerful 20-minute film sheds light on the critical need for literacy interventions in Oakland’s public schools while celebrating the transformative work of the foundation’s literacy initiatives. There is nothing more essential to a child’s opportunities in life than the ability to read well, but in Oakland, 85% of Black and Latino/a elementary students are not reading at third grade reading levels.
As part of a series of documentaries showcasing their work with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), the film illustrates the challenges and triumphs of advancing literacy in local schools. With compelling stories of individual student success, it underscores the power of personalized, high-dosage tutoring to raise reading proficiency and foster confidence, motivation, and a love of learning.
Community Comes Together to Restore Garden at Global Family Elementary
The garden, revitalized during the 2022-23 school year as part of an extensive schoolyard renovation, had quickly become a favorite space for students and staff. While the damage was significant, what followed was a remarkable demonstration of community strength and unity.
Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation Brings Partners Together to Fund Emergency Clean Water Access for Oakland Schools
Since last September, Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. has taken action to ensure students across Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) have easy access to clean drinking water. In partnership with Kaiser Permanente and TomKat Foundation, over the past four months, the foundation has funded the installation of FloWater filtration stations across 60 elementary, middle, and high schools, providing OUSD’s 34,000 students with safer, highly-filtered drinking water.
2024 the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday raises more than $4.8 million for charity
Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday announced today that the 49th playing of the official PGA TOUR Signature Event founded and hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus raised over $4.8 million for charitable organizations in Central Ohio and beyond, including $4.5 million for the Memorial’s collaborating charitable partners, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation and the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. It is the third consecutive year the Tournament’s charitable giving total has topped the $4 million mark. Since its inception in 1976, the Memorial has eclipsed $56 million in donations to charity, with nearly $41 million going to Nationwide Children’s.

Play. announced the conclusion of the 12th annual Christmas with the Currys, where the Oakland-based foundation provided more than $2 Million in resources and support to students and families this holiday season. Throughout December, Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) students and families experienced the joy of reading through festive holiday events and surprises, pop-up book fairs, book distributions, and gifts from Eat. Learn. Play.’s partners, highlighted by a generous $200,000 gift from Safeway for 1,000 Oakland families in need that will receive support through the Safeway Foundation gift cards this holiday season. For the fifth year in a row, Eat. Learn. Play. provided a holiday gift to all 18,000 elementary school students in Oakland.

Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. announced a significant commitment to raise and invest $25 million over the next five years to bridge the literacy gap in Oakland, including providing one-on-one, professional tutoring for students two or more grade levels behind in reading. Focusing on advancing reading and writing proficiency for Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) students, this will provide approximately 10,000 tutoring spots for elementary school students who are significantly behind in reading, with the support and programs they need to thrive. Last September, Eat. Learn. Play. launched a new movement to raise and invest $50 million in additional support and resources to Oakland students by the end of the 2025-26 school year.

On a beautiful, blue sky Sunday in downtown Oakland, the 15th Oakland Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K celebrated thousands of runners and walkers completing their journey across the Kaiser Permanente Finish Line adjacent Lake Merritt and Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts. The event enjoyed a 20% increase in registrations from 2023 and also saw a record turnout on Saturday for the Eat. Learn. Play. Kids Fun Run presented by Kaiser Permanente with 1,000 Oakland kids tackling ¼ mile, ½ mile and 1 mile distances.
15th Oakland Marathon Ready to Celebrate Running and Community - Weekend of events kicks off on March 15 with the Kaiser Permanente Thrive Expo
Organized by Run Local®, planning for the 15th Oakland Marathon commenced as soon as the last finisher of the 2023 event crossed the line. Welcoming 8,000 entrants, a 20% increase in participation over 2023, participants from more than 40 states and 15 countries will enjoy a redesigned experience from start-to-finish. The energized weekend of events kicks off on Friday, March 15 when the doors open to the public Kaiser Permanente Thrive Expo at the historic Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts, with funds raised to provide support and resources for Oakland students in partnership with Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. With events for everyone, the running will begin on Saturday, March 16 with the Eat. Learn. Play. Kids Fun Run presented by Kaiser Permanente.
