American Century Investments Makes $100K Gift to Eat. Learn. Play.

This past July, Eat. Learn. Play. Co-founder Stephen Curry not only became the first American Century Championship player to hit a hole-in-one on the seventh hole but only the third active athlete, and the first Black player, to win the championship in the tournament's 34 years.

Located in beautiful Lake Tahoe at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, The American Century Championship is a family-oriented, philanthropic, celebrity golf tournament that has raised more than $7 million for local and national causes. American Century Investments has served as the tournament title sponsor for the last 25 years.

American Century Investments is making a $100,000 gift to Eat. Learn. Play. to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of their tournament sponsorship and to support our work to unlock the amazing potential of every child through access to nutritious meals, quality reading resources, and opportunities to play and be active.

“We’re an investment-led global money management firm who believes doing well and doing good go hand in hand, so we’re honored and thrilled to help support the outstanding mission of Eat. Learn. Play.,” says Jonathan Thomas, President & CEO of American Century Investments. “And through our long-time sponsorship of the incredibly unique American Century Championship, we’ve not only built great relationships with amazing people like Steph Curry, we’ve also showcased the game of golf in a fun, entertaining and approachable way for millions of people, including some who might not tune in to a more traditional tournament.”

The funds from this generous donation will support Eat. Learn. Play.’s work strengthening the systems that reach Oakland kids. By partnering with local community organizations and the Oakland Unified School District, Eat. Learn. Play. is working to ensure that all Oakland students are provided the nutritious meals they need to thrive, the support needed to become stronger readers, and great schoolyards and opportunities to be healthy and active.

“This is such incredible news and a pretty special way to cap an unforgettable American Century Championship,” said Chris Helfrich, CEO of Eat. Learn. Play. “This generous donation comes at an important time for Eat. Learn. Play. as we’re getting set to announce a bold vision and commitment to improving the school experience for a generation of Oakland students. We’re thrilled!”
