Fostering Early Learning Opportunities with Lotus Bloom

This past year, Eat. Learn. Play. has strengthened our commitment to improving literacy outcomes for Oakland children through partnerships with outstanding community organizations such as Lotus Bloom.

A network of family resource centers rooted in Oakland for over 14 years, Lotus Bloom provides safe, inclusive spaces for parents/caregivers and their children aged 0-5 who might not otherwise have access to high quality early childhood educational opportunities. Their multicultural playgroups allow families to learn, play, gain confidence, and connect with other parents, health and education resources. Many of Lotus Bloom’s staff are caregivers who previously participated in Lotus Bloom playgroups.

This past year Lotus Bloom was able to impact 80 families through their in-person and virtual playgroups, distribute 300 children’s books, give away 3500 diaper boxes, and help over 300 families navigate complex health, immigration, and education paperwork.

We are proud to support Lotus Bloom’s work to engage more families with young children around literacy, school readiness, and whole-family support through their playgroups and parent/caregiver workshops. This past year Lotus Bloom was able to impact 80 families through their in-person and virtual playgroups, distribute 300 children’s books, give away 3500 diaper boxes, and help over 300 families navigate complex health, immigration, and education paperwork. In Addition, Lotus Bloom was one of our first partners to host an Eat. Learn. Play. Little Town Library; encouraging neighborhood book sharing to develop children’s passion for reading.

Lotus Bloom is part of a powerful team of Eat. Learn. Play. community partners working together to address the literacy crisis and support stronger reading outcomes for Oakland kids.
