Christmas with the Currys

We are celebrating the 11th annual Christmas with the Currys. For this year’s capstone event, Eat. Learn. Play. brought the joy of reading to every elementary school student (17,000) in the Oakland Unified School District—delivering beautiful gift boxes from Literati full of books to students at all 49 OUSD elementary schools. Each of the 17,000 holiday gift boxes included five books for each student (85,000 books total).

On December 15th, Eat. Learn. Play. hosted a special Christmas with the Currys event at Manzanita Campus. On this day, 800 students had their book gift boxes specially delivered by Stephen and Ayesha, along with the Eat. Learn. Play. team and our village of volunteers and partners. In addition, each student was provided healthy snacks and fresh fruit, new backpacks and gear from Under Armour, new lunchboxes from Rakuten, and other goodies. With the help of Stephen and Ayesha Curry, Eat. Learn. Play. staff, and volunteers, students enjoyed holiday festivities including games, activity stations and music from DJ D Sharp.

Supporting Oakland Students

Over the past 11 years, Christmas with the Currys has been an annual highlight for Stephen and Ayesha as they bring holiday cheer to the Oakland community. Since 2019, the event has been managed by Eat. Learn. Play., and has served as our capstone year-end event. Together with sponsors and community partners, we bring joy, resources, and unforgettable experiences to kids and families most in need. Over the past three years, each year's holiday celebration has brought together over 2,000 residents across Oakland, providing gifts and resources totaling more than $3 million.

Christmas with the Currys festivities began on Giving Tuesday, with a volunteer week bringing together more than 1,000 corporate partners and community volunteers to assemble and fill gift boxes
