The Partnership Will Take Place to Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Providing MasterClass Annual Memberships to Approximately 5,000 Educators and Administrative Staff

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oakland, CA – May 5, 2022 – Eat. Learn. Play. will be celebrating and honoring Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) educators, nutrition service workers, principals and administrative staff this Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6. The foundation, which was founded by three-time NBA champion, two-time MVP Stephen Curry and entrepreneur, host and two-time The New York Times best-selling author Ayesha Curry, is partnering with MasterClass, the streaming platform where anyone can learn from the world’s best across a wide range of subjects, to provide MasterClass annual memberships to almost 5,000 staff throughout Oakland Unified School District. This is part of MasterClass’ commitment to distribute free MasterClass programming to 1 million people around the globe in 2022.

“Our Oakland teachers, educators, and administrative staff have been among our most resilient community heroes in facing the added challenges of the last two years,“ said Stephen and Ayesha Curry, Co-Founders of Eat. Learn. Play. “Eat. Learn. Play. is excited to partner with MasterClass to celebrate their dedication to providing learning opportunities for the next generation as part of our ongoing efforts to provide resources that assist students and teachers in the Oakland Unified School District.”

The new partnership, being done in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, is furthering Eat. Learn. Play.’s commitment to ensuring educators have access to resources for their own personal and professional development. In December 2021, as part of the 9th Annual Christmas with the Currys, the foundation partnered with DonorsChoose to fund all elementary teacher-led literacy projects in the Oakland Unified School District up to $1 million.

“We love this time of year when we get to celebrate our staff in a formal nationally recognized way, and this year, a great part of the celebration is being able to give this outstanding benefit to all of our staff,” said OUSD Chief Systems and Services Officer Preston Thomas. “Masterclass is an amazing platform for sharing knowledge from the experts on a wide variety of topics. It will help all of us broaden our own perspectives on the world, and by extension will give us more knowledge to share with our students. We appreciate this wonderful support from MasterClass and of course, Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.”

Recipients of the MasterClass annual membership will receive unprecedented access to the platform’s 150+ instructors and classes across a wide variety of fields, including Arts & Entertainment, Business, Design & Style, Sports, Writing and more.

"From a young age, it was instilled in me that education is the one thing that someone can’t take away from you," said David Rogier, Founder and CEO of MasterClass. “In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, MasterClass is excited to partner with Eat. Learn. Play to provide Oakland Unified School District teachers and staff free access to the MasterClass platform.”
